About the Position: This consulting position will align to a Data Engineering Lead and capital projects. They will be responsible for data analysis and documentation of architecture patterns and designs across our environment, including our existing Teradata platform and our new AWS Data Lake and analytics environment. They will engage in conceptual and logical data modeling with guidance from our data architects, data integration and engineering mappings and data flow documentation, metadata management, and will play a key role in analyzing data and becoming data subject matter expert. This role will support the Data Architect Lead in the buildout of reporting, analytics, and data science practices in AWS.
Key responsibilities include: • Collect, explore and analyze data from a variety of sources, including Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, and AWS S3, Redshift, and RDS, using SQL and other necessary means • Understand and document data flow patterns and data pipelines • Create and maintain metadata, configuration data, and analyze performance metrics for data pipelines • Create repeatable mechanisms for exploring structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data • Handle confidential information responsibly • Help commission and decommission datasets • Assess and measure data quality and support data integrity initiatives • Identify and understand patterns in data
Qualifications • Substantial experience and advanced skills in SQL scripting as the primary skill • Experience in the utility industry is a big plus • Experience with Cloud Data Lake and Data Warehousing architectures • Strong experience analyzing complex SQL queries • Experience with on-prem and AWS database platforms, such as Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, S3, Redshift, RDS, and Athena • Experience with relational and dimensional data modeling • Understanding of on-prem and AWS data pipelines and orchestration tools, such as Airflow, Informatica, Kafka, Lambda, Step-Functions, Storage Gateway, Glue • Working experience in an Agile environment • Effective communication in collaborating with Data Engineers, product owners, cloud engineers, Business and other project teams. • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics, or equivalent computer-related degree from an accredited college or university required • Six or more years of data management, modeling and analysis experience required. Data Lake and dimensional models preferred.
