Cloud Migration Data Architect - III

The Systems Engineering & Integration for the National Systems for Geospatial-Intelligence program delivers full life-cycle systems integration and engineering services to the missions of its customer. The program is chartered to provide technical leadership for many of NGA’s highest priorities, including the Data Engineering (DE) project efforts. DE provides a framework to influence and manage the full lifecycle of NSG data from ingest to final disposition, and effectively enable user discovery, access, retrieval, oversight, and disposition. The Data Engineer serves as a primary resource for defining the end-state and evolutionary stages of NSG data frameworks.

Responsibilities include:
  • The candidate will refactor existing software solutions and redeploy those solution into the customer cloud leveraging benefits from AWS and Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments.
  • The team is responsible for updating existing software, and migrating applications, based on customer need to a cloud environment. The team works in a SAFe Agile environment with the customer and other organizations in the Program.
  • The candidate will map data types from existing databases and software solutions to a common framework to enhance enterprise search and discovery which also fit within the frame of a cloud environment
  • Support the architecture development and integration of cloud data migration efforts, required releasability rules, system requirements, and program dependencies
  • Review and assess engineering packages containing data schemas for conformance and work within the agile team to help deploy software systems that leverage complex data holdings
  • Manage the communication and coordination of effort amongst a five person team of System Engineers, providing technical inputs into the SEIN Technical Report, the SEIN Award Fee Assessments, the Cloud Data Migration project efforts, and the buildout of the Open Data Store. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent
  • 6+ years of data engineering, data architecture, systems engineering, systems integration, or systems development experience
  • 1+ years of related experience with NGA or its IC partners
  • Working experience with Amazon Web Services and Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF)
  • Open-source database technologies compatible with geospatial data extract/transform/load processes (e.g. PostGIS, GeoServer)
  • 1+ years in either data modeling, data architecture or data analytics, with experience in developing taxonomies, data dictionaries and/or data schema to include semantic data concepts and related technologies
  • 1+ years of experience working with cloud technology engineering, or working knowledge of GovCloud and C2S architectures and capabilities
  • Experience in requirements analysis, and support related integration and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to establish working relationships across organizational and geographic boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present effective technical presentations to senior management; must possess strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Familiarity with federal and industry metadata concepts and standards, with specific focus on geospatial metadata standards and issues
Desired Qualifications:
  • Programing experience in such languages as C#, Java, Python, Ruby and SQL
  • Proficient with the following technologies/applications: Amazon Web Services, one or more application integration framework technologies such as Cloud Foundry, RedHat OpenShift, Apache Mesos, microservices, and enterprise-scale high performance processing technologies such as Hadoop and Spark
  • 2+ years technical experience supporting NSG systems, segments, and architectures for GEOINT libraries including Open Data Store (ODS)
  • 2+ years of experience as a systems of systems integrator
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile Systems Engineering & Integration
  • Working knowledge of NGA releasability rules for key data types 
  • Working knowledge of XML
  • Experience with physical data storage architecture
