A system engineer sets up, configures, and maintains integration systems in production processes, tests network servers to ensure efficiency, and takes part in the implementation of simulators and test tools. The systems engineer also provides guidance and expert advice to clients and development personnel as needed.  In the case of the Enterprise Integration Lab (EIL), the integrator is primarily testing software to include portals, portlets, and patches.  In addition, testing is done on configuration changes to the environment and upgrades to the software and architecture.
Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
  • Ability to generate efficient command line scripts in the Linux OS, primarily using Bash
  • Install applications and patches to Windows and Linux environments and verify operational viability
  • Troubleshoots networking and interconnection problems within a system and with external systems
  • Expert level understanding of TCP, UDP, sockets, and network socket IO and familiar with netfilter sub-system
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot advance firewall policies to include natting and routing policies
  • Understanding of virtual environments to include use of vmWare, familiarity with vSphere 5.5 and experience in upgrading to 6.x or 7 (desired)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to train and manage operations of junior personnel
  • Experience with Open-Source tools like: Ansible, SALT, Puppet, CHEF, etc. (desired). Ability to discern value and evaluate open-source tools and software in comparison with COTS products (desired)
  • Clear and concise communication skills that breaks down complex technical areas for understanding by non-technical managers
  • Able to work, communicate, and resolve issues with a wide variety of developers of varying experience levels. Work, communicate, and troubleshoot with system administrators concerning environment, infrastructure, architecture, and application issues.
  • Must have Linux experience and able to navigate a Windows environment, write/edit shell scripts, understand network configurations (along with the various security considerations), IP addressing, hosts files, file systems, etc.
  • Integration experience - able to create detailed instructions, work with others (integration engineers and developers) to clarify build and installation instructions, provide feedback, instructions, suggestions, etc.
  • Familiar with middleware stacks, web applications running on Linux - Apache Tomcat, Liferay, WebMethods, JBoss
  • Development experience - programming, compiling, installing, system calls including Agile exposure is a plus.
  • Database experience - ability to run scripts (transact SQL) create database objects, monitor, and recognize issues and/or violations of industry wide and Enterprise Integration Lab (EIL) specific standards (MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, MS SQL Server.) (desired)Other skills - provide government leaders with recommendations, ideas, and improvements for processes, architecture, and timing. Document ideas and processes as required/requested. Review and provide feedback to authors of documentation.
  • Strong focus on Linux integration with Active Directory using Kerberous
  • Experience configuring git, gitlab, and git client to include creating repositories and checking code in and out
Education and other requirements:
  • 10 years of experience in related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, Master’s preferred
  • ITIL Foundations certified (must have prior to start)
  • Secret Clearance
